A brief overview on the three different types of massage that are the most popular including chair massage, deep tissue massage and a Swedish massage.

Massage therapy has been around for a long time, some experts contend it is even mentioned twice in the bible. You can’t beat that for an endorsement. The fact is this is a treatment that works to relax both your body and soul by manipulating your muscles and connective tissues. And when it’s done right, it can also help to stimulate your circulation, all of which can help to make you feel rejuvenated. So with all of these great benefits, it’s no wonder this type of relaxing body therapy has managed to maintain its popularity for so long.

When you decide you want to discover what everyone else has already discovered- the wonderful sensation of a full body treatment there are several types to choice from but the three main types include chair, deep tissue and Swedish massage.

A chair treatment involves a full massage while you sit in a chair, fully clothed. Getting a chair treatment at work, the airport, the mall, the county fair or in a spa setting has become a popular way to alleviate the stress of life in more convenient settings. These quick picker uppers generally last about fifteen minutes or so and are just a taste of what a deep tissue or a Swedish treatment has to offer but they are a good way to relax and loosen up stiff muscles and relieve stress.

A deep tissue massage is a more focused treatment that is done while you lay on a table for a treatment that is more intense than a chair treatment or a Swedish treatment and works a deeper layer of muscles. This is ideal for chronic pain, sports injuries, muscle tension and other medical conditions that respond well to the therapeutic benefits of treatment therapy. This type of treatment can leave you feeling like you’ve had a good workout and make you feel sore for a day or two afterwards but if your therapist does it right the discomfort goes away in a day or two and your body usually feels better, not worse for the workout.

Finally there is Swedish massage which was pioneered in Sweden in 1812 and later introduced to America in 1858 as the Swedish Movement Cure. Today the Swedish Movement Cure is known for being a gentle and relaxing full body massage. This type of treatment is generally done while you lay naked or partially naked on a table, covered with a sheet while the therapist works on delivering gentle strokes and rubs to your body using aromatic oils.

The Swedish Cure is considered a good treatment to start with for people who have never been massaged before because it is such a low key and relaxing treatment. Your therapist can go gentle or deep depending on your preference and just as in a deep tissue treatment; your Swedish treatment can go along way to rejuvenate your body and soul.
